According to the 2010 World University Ranking, the University of Rome, “La Sapienza”, is now within the 200 best universities world-wide. La Sapienza University of Rome was founded in 1303 by Pope Boniface VIII. It is the first University in Rome and the largest University in Europe: a city within a city, with over 700 years of history, 145,000 students, over 4,500 professors and almost 5,000 administrative and technical staff.

Description: Starting from September 21, the Galleria Nazionale di Arte Antica in Palazzo Barberini will open to visitors 24 more rooms. On the ground floor, the rooms that were already opened will be home of the masterpieces from 1200 to 1500. On the first floor, the new rooms will host Raphael, the paintings from the late 1500 to the beginning of 1600, with a big presence of Master Caravaggio. The celebrations will start on September 19 with an entire night of open doors at Palazzo Barberini, the Orto Botanico, Galleria Corsino e Palazzo Farnesina Chigi.

Descrizione: Tra pochi giorni saranno aperte le nuove sezioni della Galleria Nazionale di Arte Antica in Palazzo Barberini, al termine dei grandi lavori di restauro. Dal prossimo 21 settembre i visitatori del museo potranno vedere 24 sale. Gli spazi del piano terra, per la prima volta aperti al pubblico, sono destinati alla pittura dal Duecento ai primi del Cinquecento con opere rare come la Madonna Advocata (di scuola romana dell’XI secolo) e la meravigliosa Annunciazione di Filippo Lippi. Al primo piano, nei nuovi ambienti che seguono le stanze dedicate alle opere da Raffaello ai manieristi, saranno esposti dipinti dell’ultimo Cinquecento e del primo Barocco, tra cui numerose tele dei pittori caravaggeschi di prima e seconda generazione posti a diretto confronto con i capolavori di Caravaggio.

ROME - According to a survey by the Anagrafe in Rome and to an article published by the roman newspaper Il Messaggero, Rome is now made by 3,106.318 habitants. Yet, it seems that 118.000 people live in the City but have their residence somewhere else, so they are usually not counted in other official surveys.

ROMA (4 settembre) - I romani, intesi come cittadini che risiedono stabilmente nella Capitale, sono «più di tre milioni, senza considerare gli studenti fuori sede», dice Mauro Cutrufo, vice sindaco con delega all’Anagrafe. Studenti compresi si arriva addirittura a 3.106.318, secondo uno studio eseguito dagli uffici capitolini su tutti i nuclei familiari della Città eterna. La cifra complessiva dei residenti “reali” supera abbondantemente i dati dell’Istat: quelli, per capirci, su cui si basano i trasferimenti dello Stato al Campidoglio. Non una questione di lana caprina, quindi, ma   particolarmente importante in un momento in cui si discute delle risorse per Roma Capitale.

Descrizione: La Frick Collection e’ uno dei nostri musei preferiti a New York e questa mostra ci piace davvero molto! Per la prima volta un museo cittadino dedica una intera mostra alla tradizione dei disegnatori spagnoli. Molti i nomi eccellenti protagonisti di questo eccezionale evento: Francisco Pacheco, Vicente Carducho, Jusepe de Ribera, Murillo, francisco de herrera e su tutti, il maestro Francisco de Goya. La mostra rimarra’ aperta dal 5 ottobre 2010 al 9 gennaio 2011.

Description: The Spanish Manner: Drawings from Ribera to Goya is the first museum exhibition to be held in this city devoted to the broad tradition of Spanish draftsmanship.  With generous loans from The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Hispanic Society of America, and extraordinary sheets from The Morgan Library & Museum, the Princeton University Art Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and individual collectors, this exhibition of more than fifty works presents a sampling of the rich, diverse legacy of the Spanish draftsman from the early seventeenth to the early nineteenth century.  Included are rare sheets by Francisco Pacheco and Vicente Carducho, and a number of spectacular red chalk drawings by the celebrated draftsman Jusepe de Ribera.  The exhibition continues with rapid sketches and painting-like wash drawings from the rich oeuvre of the Andalusian master Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, along with lively drawings by Francisco de Herrera the Elder and his son and the Madrid court artist Juan Carreño de Miranda, among others.  The second part of the exhibition will present twenty-two sheets by the great draftsman Francisco de Goya, whose drawings are rarely studied in the illuminating context of the Spanish draftsmen who came before him.  These works, mostly from his private albums, attest to the continuity between his thematic interests and those of his Spanish forebears, as well as to his enormously fertile imagination. We were in this restaurant/pizzeria thanks to a friend… and we loved it! The place is nice, very comfortable, and the food is excellent. It’s open every day for lunch and dinner. After eating, you can take a sweet walk in the streets of Rome; the restaurant is very close to Campo de Fiori and to Piazza Navona, and the Lungotevere, Largo Argentina, Castel St. Angelo and St. Peter. Need to say more?

Siamo stati in questo locale grazie ad un amico… e ci e’ piaciuto molto! Per l’atmosfera, il servizio e i piatti, ottimi e vari. Il Corallo e’ aperto tutti giorni sia a pranzo che a cena. Dopo il pasto, si puo’ fare una dolce passeggiata per le strade del centro di Roma. Il Corallo e’ vicino Piazza Navona, Campo de Fiori, il Lungotevere, Largo Argentina, Castel Sant’Angelo e San Pietro. Basta?
